Crystal meth is leading to carjackings according the many of the perpetrators who said 'people are being dragged out of car windows and f#&ked onto the pavement,' Henry McKean's report reveals.
In recent weeks we have seen a rise in carjackings in the capital. A pregnant woman was carjacked while still being inside her car and for the first time they are now happening in the leafy suburbs of the city.
Henry spoke to a number of people who took part in carjacking and asked why are they doing it and is the problem getting worse?
A 21-year-old who admits to carjacking a businessman in a luxury car at 2 in the afternoon: 'Someone was in their car, we needed a bit of entertainment, we grabbed your man, told him to get out of his car he said no, so we grabbed him out, rallied it, then burnt it. I was out of my head on drugs and there was nothing to do at the time.'
The carjackers say crystal meth is making them on edge and leading to hugely erratic and dangerous behaviour.
According to an 18 year old 'Car jacking is here to stay, others do it in desperation to get away from the Gardai. Some say they are stealing to order or for hits' (a contract killing).
A Dublin carjacker said: 'It's not far from LA, kids will be carrying guns and car jacks are a part of it.'
