The so called Umbrella Revolution in Hong Kong is now in its fifth day. Thousands of young student protesters have taken to the streets wanting mainland China to withdraw plans to vet candidates for the next leadership contest in 2017. The protesters want free elections. Britain handed back Hong Kong to China in 1997 agreeing it will be left with a high level of democracy, compared to the rest of China.
I spoke to Hong Kong people living in Ireland and asked were they concerned about loved ones back home? Could this be another Tiananmen Square? In 1989 a student protest was brutally crushed and thousands of people disappeared or were killed.
