The superstar has run into problems with officials in her adopted son and daughter's home country.

The Malawian government has accused Madonna of demanding special treatment and of exaggerating her contribution to the country.

The singer has visited the southern African nation several times and has adopted 2 children who were born in Malawi.

But the Office of the President now claimed Madonna wants Malawi "chained to the obligation of gratitude".

Malawi's State House says it finds it 'strange and depressing' that Madonna would expect special treatment for carrying out what she has previously call a humanitarian act in the country - kindness they have said would usually be expected to be free and anonymous.

In contrast it says footballers Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand have never demanded state attention on their visits.

It adds that President Joyce Banda and her government are ready to welcome any philanthropist to Malawi but that "acts of kindness must always remain as such".

A spokesman for Madonna calls the claims "nonsense". On her most recent visit, the 54-year-old said her motive for being in Malawi was because she "cared deeply" for the children of the country.
