A powerful fourth quarter from the Kansas City Chiefs saw them end a 50-year drought to claim the Superbowl title overnight at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Trailing 20-10 as the game entered the final quarter, the Chiefs produced a superb spell to score 21 points without reply to defeat the San Francisco 49ers and clinch the Vince Lombardi trophy.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was at the centre of the Chiefs comeback, throwing brilliantly to begin the process for Travis Kelce to touch down, while his pass also set up Damien Williams with just three minutes left on the clock.

Williams added a second soon after cap off a stunning comeback from Andy Reid's charges.

In a campaign of comebacks for the Chiefs, it was 10-10 at half-time here, before Raheem Mostert's score helped the 49ers establish a 20-10 lead in the third.

However, the Chiefs took over in the fourth to seal a historic win, with Mahomes singing the praises of his teammates' grit afterwards.

"We never lost faith, I think that's the biggest thing," Mahomes said post-match.

"Everybody on this team, no one had their head down and we believed in each other and that's what we preached all year long. We found a way to get it in the end."

"We had to jump in, defense got some big stops for us and we found a way to win it in the end."

Mahomes held particular praise for coach Andy Reid, who wins his first Superbowl title.

"Coach really told me to keep firing, keep believing, keep throwing it and he gives me the confidence to go out there no matter what I do and we worked out well."

Andy Reid too was elated in the post-match.

"It was great, it's beautiful,"

"I love this guy [Mahomes] and all those guys that came before, love you too. This is what it's all about. What a great team, great coaches. Love every bit of it."
