The eagerly-anticipated 'Gentleman' was due to launch worldwide at midnight, but due to time differences in Australia & New Zealand the song has appeared early. Despite the efforts of record company Universal, unofficial streams of the track have continued appearing on YouTube. The official video is still due to launch at midnight.

YouTube will be hosting a live stream of the song tomorrow, when Psy takes to the stage at Seoul's World Cup stadium to give the first public performance of Gentleman.

Gangnam Style and its accompanying dance became an international viral success in 2012, with the YouTube video count of the song currently topping 1.5 billion views. It is the most viewed video in the history of the site, with almost double the viewcount of Justin Bieber's Baby in second place.

While the new song has enjoyed a hype campaign in the days and weeks leading up to its reveal, its uncertain whether it can possibly match the success of its predecessor. Peter Robinson of the Guardian writes that "naturally a true viral hit will always trump one dreamed up by agencies, and so it follows that the genuine joy of the Gangnam Style video is, in a sense, impossible to recreate," although predicts that the song could still be a massive hit if the accompanying video matches the quality of Gangnam Style.
