As a conference debates Dublin's future planning needs, it seems there is already a divide.

US messaging app Slack is expanding, creating 80 jobs in the city over the next two years.

They were based in Dublin 8 - but reports say they waited for a year before south-side office space opened up.

They will now be based at One Park Place in Dublin 2.

The head of their Irish operations, James Sherrett, said: "We want our employees to thrive, to have great lifestyle options and commuter options - that means cafes to go to, places to go after work, parks close by, good bike lanes, good places to walk".

Is this snobbery, or just businesses doing what they feel is right for them?

Frank McDonald is former environment editor of the Irish Times.

He told the Pat Kenny Show here on Newstalk while he understands the thinking behind it, it does not make sense.

He says in order for things to improve, some vital issues need to be addressed.

While Richard Guiney, from the DublinTown group, says the north side of the city is improving.

But he agrees that more action - and less talk - is needed.
