As Joe put it, this season has been a season of progress and humiliations for Arsenal.

While, the Gunners have been closer to the top and consistent against the weaker clubs, that has been tempered by horrendous performances away to their title rivals.

But what is the problem for Arsenal? Is it mental? Or tactical as Pat Nevin put it?

Andrew Mangan of Arseblog believes that the Gunners have focused on defence lately but that this was thrown out the window against Chelsea.

"What's made Arsenal effective over the past 12 months has been the fact that they've kind of accepted that they can't play this attacking game that the very best Arsenal teams could. So they've focused on the defensive side of their game and keeping their shape at the back," said Mangan before a big but.

"But on Saturday, they decided to have a real go at Chelsea. If you want to have a go at Chelsea, that's understandable. But I don't understand it when you don't have Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere in your side. And when you're playing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who is very much makeshift in the centre of midfield, then it was naive."

But Mangan also added that the players should be culpable for the unforced errors that they committed.

And he believes that Arsene Wenger may think about calling it a day if Arsenal fail to lift the FA Cup this season, given that they are the strongest side left in the competition.

"I think his desire is to stay. But unless Arsenal win the FA Cup this season from the position that they're in, I think it becomes very difficult for him to sign a new deal," said Mangan.

Mangan also gave his take on Raymond Verheijen's comments on Off The Ball about Arsene Wenger's "incompetent" training methods.
