Wigan Athletic defender Juan Carlos Garcia has been diagnosed with leukaemia.
The 26-year-old Honduras international has recently returned to the Championship club, for whom he has yet to make an appearance, after a loan spell with Tenerife.
Manager Malky Mackay said in statement that Garcia was ''upbeat and his spirits were strong''.

On Thursday, the club had revealed that Garcia was hospitalised with a blood disorder.
