Ireland midfielder Glenn Whelan has signed a two-year contract extension with Stoke City.

The 31-year-old has been at the Potters since 2008 and has made over 200 appearances for the club.

Team-mate Peter Crouch also ended speculation about his future by signing a new deal at Stoke.

The striker would have been out of contract at the end of the season, but will now stay at the club until 2017.

"Players like Glenn and Peter are very much the backbone of our squad and we’re delighted they have committed to spend at least another two years with the club," said Stoke's chief executive Tony Scholes.
