The Champions League group stage draw for 2016-17 takes place at 5pm and while participation is already lucrative for the Premier League sides, progression to the prestigious knockout stage is the aim.

However, a tough draw on paper can scupper those chances before they have even begun.

But what would a nightmare look like for Leicester, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham?

First off, here are the four pots that will make up the eight groups:

Pot 1: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Leicester City, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Benfica, PSG, CSKA Moscow

Pot 2: Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Manchester City, Sevilla, Porto, Napoli, Bayer Leverkusen

Pot 3: FC Basel, Tottenham Hotspur, Dynamo Kiev, Lyon, PSV Eindhoven, Sporting CP, Club Brugge, Borussia Monchengladbach

Pot 4: Celtic, AS Monaco, Besiktas, Legia Warsaw, Dinamo Zagreb, Ludogorets Razgrad, FC Copenhagen, Rostov

Leicester City

The surprise Premier League champions avoid big-hitters like Barcelona and Real Madrid thanks to being in Pot 1. But danger lurks elsewhere.

Being drawn in a group alongside Atletico Madrid (Pot 2), Borussia Monchengladbach (Pot 3) and Monaco (Pot 4) would be difficult - although the Foxes have already proven that nothing is impossible.

Arsenal and Manchester City

As Pot 2 teams, the duo are in a similar boat and for them the toughest draw looks like Barcelona/Real Madrid, Borussia Monchengladbach and Monaco, the latter two who would be marginally the most daunting propositions in Pot 3 and 4 respectively.

Tottenham

Spurs are the lowest ranked Premier League side in this season's group stage draw and could conceivably end up grouped with Barcelona/Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Monaco.
