Man City could still win the Premier League this season but it has not been a vintage season for a club which continue to spend vast sums.

While the squad was strengthened and Manuel Pellegrini has largely had a reasonably positive impact since signing as manager, weaknesses remain.

The back four remains an area to address in the summer, although Financial Fair Play rulings could hit recruitment plans.

But how has the City fanbase taken to the players this season. Does the only homegrown player Micah Richards get a look in? Or have the Sky Blues supporters tired of errors made by Martin Demichelis and Joe Hart at various points during the season?

The team at Beat Your Manager! Fantasy Football have all the answers.

The 11 most popular Man City players include three of their strikers

  • Goalkeeper Joe Hart struggled for form earlier in the season. But the second half of the season have seen fewer errors from the England man and this is reflected among the City fanbase. Before Christmas 86 per cent of fans saw him as an undisputed first choice. But that figure has now jumped to 93 per cent.
  • Yaya Toure and David Silva lead the Man City popularity race. The Ivorian makes it into 99 per cent of fan lineups with Silva at 98 per cent.
  • Pablo Zabaleta is also the most picked member of the back line, even ahead of inspirational captain Vincent Kompany by eight per cent.
  • Edin Dzeko may only get the nod to start among 72 per cent of Man City fans but that still makes him one of the 11 most relied upon players when fans have the choice. The Bosnian's popularity has also increased since January.
  • Despite the constant errors, Martin Demichelis would still make it into 68 per cent of fan lineups and that figure actually stands at 72 per cent post-Christmas, although Matija Nastasic's injury problems have played a part in fans' thinking. Joleon Lescott was more popular than Demichelis with fans in the first half of the season but this has swung in the other direction since winter.
  • Micah Richards might be the only homegrown player in the City squad but only has a 21 per cent rating according to fan tastes.
  • Similarly James Milner (15 per cent) and Aleksander Kolarov (20 per cent) are relatively unpopular. Also, only a third of City fans would have started with Gareth Barry before his loan move to Everton which suggests there was hardly a ripple of discontent when he was allowed to leave.
  • Summer signing Jesus Navas' popularity has dropped as the season as worn on with a 14 per cent drop.
