Former West Indies cricket captain Brian Lara is recovering in hospital in Mumbai after being admitted with chest pains.

The 50-year-old insists the minor heart scare is "nothing major" after he felt ill while working out in the gym earlier today.

"A couple of the tests have come back already, the doctors were quite happy that there is nothing major. I'll be back in full health very soon," said the record holder for the highest individual innings in both Tests and first-class cricket.

"I think I maybe just extended myself too much in the gym this morning and there's been a bit of pain in my chest.

"I'm just letting everyone know I'm fine, I'm recovering and I'll be back in my hotel room tomorrow.

"I'm going to be alright."

Lara's been working as an analyst for Indian television for the Cricket World Cup and the West Indies Cricket Board have also wished their leading run scorer well in his recovery.

"Our prayers go out to Brian Lara, who has been hospitalised in Mumbai due to chest pains.

"On behalf of all at Cricket West Indies, we wish you a speedy recovery."
