Louis Van Gaal has told Danny Welbeck he can leave Manchester United if he wishes. The striker has two years remaining on his contract but the new United boss has told the England international he is free to leave if he wishes.

Welbeck had been seen by many as the third choice striker at the club – behind Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie – but Van Gaal may now have to put his faith in 18 year old James Wilson.

News of Welbeck’s availability is likely to interest several Premier League clubs including Arsenal and Tottenham, who have both enquired about the 23 year old in the past.

United reportedly value Welbeck at roughly €19m.
