Usain Bolt's 100 metre record has been the benchmark since 2009, with that time of 9.58 seconds likely to stand the test of time for many more years.

However, his sprint rival Justin Gatlin has finally broken it ... although it won't count given the circumstance.

The American, who has served bans for doping offences, was on Japanese TV and had the benefit of a giant fan and smaller fans set up to help push him towards his goal.

With the extra push from the artificially-enhanced wind, he smashed Bolt's record with a time of 9.45 seconds.

And he got paid 2 million yen for his services.
