An injury time own goal from Laura Bassett knocked England out of the Women's World Cup last night.

The game looked set to go to injury time, when Bassett tried to clear to a clear a Japanese cross. The attempted clearance hit the underside of the crossbar to knock England out in the cruellest of circumstances. 

World Champions Japan now go on to face the United States in a repeat of the 2011 final, while England will play Germany in the third-fourth place play off this weekend.
