Last January, the story of a young Afghan boy made world news, when he was pictured in a blue and white plastic bag, pretending to be Lionel Messi.

Murtaza Ahmadi, was identified and found after a wide social media search. He was sent a signed Argentina jersey by Messi, with the promise that the two would eventually meet.

The two finally met on Tuesday in Doha. Barcelona are currently in Qatar, ahead of a mid-season friendly with Al-Ahli, just days before their derby with Espanyol.

Messi, along with the rest of the Barcelona squad, met Ahmadi and his father. The family have left Afghanistan since the picture was taken and are now based in Pakistan.

What a brilliant story to round off 2016. You can genuinely see the warmth in Messi when he meets the boy.
