Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic will join Inter Milan in the summer.

The 32-year-old defender is out of contract at the club this summer and his move comes after weeks of negotiations.

Two weeks ago the Nerazurri's owner Erick Thohir had claimed that a deal for Vidic was 90 per cent done and has now described the three-year contract as "crucial" for a club in a state of flux.

Thohir told the club's website: "[Vidic] is one of the world's best defenders and his qualities, international pedigree and charisma will be an asset to the team and help bring through our younger players. He will bring added value to the club and is another piece of the great Inter side we are building."

Meanwhile, the Daily Star has claimed that Inter will target Arsenal's Lukas Podolski after confirming Vidic's signature.

Almost four years on from winning the 2010 Champions League title, Inter Milan find themselves fifth in Serie A and are likely to spend a third season outside of the Champions League next season.
