Eight years on the Series survives and will hopefully thrive tomorrow in Perth when Ireland and Australia lock horns in an important match for hybrid rules' future.

But you may remember that the International Rules tests were under considerable threat amid over-the-top physicality, brawls and violent actions seen on the field in the mid-noughties contests.

While Rules returned in 2008, thankfully scenes like this have not returned in part thanks to rule changes.
