The 60-year-old actor erroneously referred to Frozen star Idina Menzel as “Adele Dazeem” when he introduced her performance of soundtrack song Let It Go at the ceremony.
And John has broken his silence on the matter, admitting on Tuesday he was initially ashamed.
"I've been beating myself up all day," the Pulp Fiction star released in a statement to People magazine.
But he didn’t lament too hard over the incident.
John reveals he figured out a way to empower himself while immersed in his own remorse.
"Then I thought, what would Idina Menzel say? She'd say, let it go, let it go!" he recalled.
Ultimately John is happy with the way things went at the 86th Academy Awards.
And he is elated Idina’s Frozen track won the Oscar for Best Original Song.
"Idina is incredibly talented and I am so happy Frozen took home two Oscars Sunday night!" John said.
His tongue-tied moment spurred a series of internet memes and made for plenty of material for late-night comedians.
But a source told E! News recently Idina is in good humour over the whole thing, as she thought John’s mistake was hilarious.
“She laughed it off. She thought it was so funny. She was like, 'What are you going to do?'" the insider told the outlet.
"The Oscars were a dream come true for Idina. She wasn't going to let anything get in the way of that.”
Idina apparently bumped into John backstage afterward and sources claim the pair shared a chuckle and moved on.
