Adult Swim - the late night network known for its offbeat animation - has always had a reputation for the bizarre. With shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Robot Chicken and Childrens Hospital, it has constantly pushed comedy in very peculiar directions.
They have outdone themselves with Too Many Cooks - a short that was seemingly broadcast in the middle of the night, and now has made its way online. Things start off harmlessly enough. With its horribly catchy theme tune and retro visuals, it seems like a simple, amusing satire of retro American sitcoms.
By the time director Lars von Trier is credited as playing a pie, however, we are through the looking glass, and the looking glass goes deep. The video starts shifting between genres with giddy abandon, and becomes as disturbing as it is hilarious.
