A footballer who was struck by lightning during a Cup semi-final in Peru is recovering in hospital.

Joao Contreras of Sport Águila and a linesman were struck during a match against Union Fuerza Minera.

They are being treated in hospital, with Contreras suffering second degree burns. He is in a stable condition.

Initially, reports claimed that the 21-year-old player had been killed.
