Marshawn Lynch produced an extraordinary pre-Super Bowl press conference yesterday in which the Seattle Seahawks running back repeatedly dismissed journalists' questions by saying simply: "You know why I'm here."

Lynch had previously been fined $100,000 by the NFL for failing to speak with reporters, and yesterday's daft scenes had all the hallmarks of a man adhering to rules so as not to be punished again, but being utterly non-compliant at the same time.

The 28-year-old arrived to his team’s scheduled media session – a required protocol for all players – and opened with, "So ain't nothing changed since yesterday. I’ve got the same thing I had for you yesterday," before being asked by a journalist: "Marshawn, why do you have to be a jerk to all of us?"

He then went on to repeat the phrase "You know why I'm here" 11 times over an almost five-minute press conference, only deviating to say "they know why I'm here" when asked directly about Seattle fans!

Understandably, the presser soon attained an element of farce, with one wag eventually asking Lynch, "Do you still prefer cat videos to dog videos?" His answer? "You know why I'm here."

Our own favourite was the following exchange:

Reporter: "What music y'all listen to pre-game?"
Marshawn Lynch: "New song."
Reporter: "New song, from who?"
Marshawn Lynch: "Marshawn - 'You know why I'm here'"
