"His thinking of the game was probably ahead of everybody else..." That's what Frank Stapleton had to say about Johan Cruyff when he was on Off The Ball a few months ago.
And who would argue with him. The Dutch legend is the man who inspired the great Ajax side of the 90s, as well as Barcelona's greatest eras under his own management and also as a mentor to his disciple Pep Guardiola.
And who's to say that Cruyff's invisible hand has not caressed Pep's Bayern Munich in recent months?
Tonight, his other disciple Frank De Boer, who has won three consecutive league titles with Ajax, welcomes Barcelona to the Amsterdam Arena.
Under De Boer, Ajax are restructuring and returning to Cruyff's methods including individual training and the preeminence of the Ajax academy to supplement the first team.
We will be talking about the reemergence of Cruyff's spirit at Ajax on the show tonight. But in the meantime, watch the video above and enjoy a tactical masterclass from one of football's greatest philosophers.
