Gardai had to escort referee Joe McQuilan from the field following last night’s All-Ireland third round qualifier between Kildare and Tyrone in Newbridge, as a group of angry Kildare surrounded the referee following the final whistle.

Tyrone won the game 1-11 to 0-12, thus ending Kildare’s involvement in this year’s championship.

The footage, courtesy of the Irish Examiner, shows McQuillan being led to the dressing room while a group of Kildare fans surround him.

The GAA will investigate the incident.
