Are just some words you're allowed to say on cable but not on broadcast television in the United States.

Broadcast TV networks like FOX, ABC and NBC have asked the Federal Broadcasting Commission to drop historically strict indecency laws for broadcast television because their ratings have dropped so much that they're no longer culturally relevant.

They also said that allowing certain swear words on cable TV but not on broadcast TV gives cable an unfair advantage.

We see what they mean; Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones, two of the biggest shows in recent years, are produced by cable networks AMC and HBO respectively.

Stephen Colbert took a stand in favour of swearing when he chronicled some of the words you're currently only allowed to say on cable.

Oh, and he asked Hugh Laurie to help.
