Manchester United manager Louis van Gall has expressed a firm interest in bringing Cristiano Ronaldo back to his opld stomping ground where he first came to prominence under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Speculation regarding Ronaldo's return to Old Trafford has been mounting recently with a full bodied figure of €85m going for the Portuguese, €5m more than his value when he transferred to Real Madrid in 2009.

Aside from his somewhat uninspiring performance yesterday at the El Clasico, the 30 year-old is still Real Madrid's all-time record goalscorer and is the current holder of the Ballon d'Or for the second consecutive year.

Van Gaal is clearly undeterred by yesterday's off-day and still believes Ronaldo possess the qualities that would add to United's attack as they did after he was signed in 2003. And he's not afraid to publicly confirm his interest in the Portuguese star.

Speaking to British media this week, Van Gaal said:

'We are looking at all players, not just Ronaldo. But these players are mostly ungettable. With Ronaldo, let's wait and hope. There is no trainer in the world that doesn't like him.'

During his time in England, Ronaldo won three Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy with United.
