Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes will be out for up to 7 months, following surgery on a knee injury sustained during Barcelona’s La Liga win over Celta Vigo on March 26.
The 32 year old fell awkwardly while saving a free kick and in the fall tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Valdes underwent surgery on Monday morning, in Germany, and Barcelona have since confirmed he surgery was a success.
A club statement read: “The Barça keeper has been operated on by doctors Ulrich Boenisch and Ricard Pruna in Augsburg (Germany) for the anterior cruciate ligament tear he suffered last week. The knee’s internal cartilage has been sewn up and the operation was concluded successfully. Valdes will be out of action for approximately seven months.”
Valdes has played for the Catalan giants over 500 times, but is leaving the club at the end of the current season on a free transfer as his contract expires. Manchester City were one of a number o clubs reportedly interested in signing the Spanish international, prior to his injury.
Barcelona have already agreed a deal to sign Mar-Andre ter Stegen from German side Borussia Monchangladbach in the summer.
