UPC will be looking to not only streamline their own offerings with the device, but also hoping to offer a 'neater' alternative to their competitors, most of whom still require separate boxes for different services.
The Samsung-designed box comes with a new browsing UI, including 'semi-transparent menus' that mean you don't have to exit programmes to check VOD or other content.
In terms of its television features, the most unique offering will be the ability to record up to four programmes at once while watching a fifth. There is storage space of 400GB.
Horizon HD, which can be ordered from UPC from today, will also come with a 'double-sided' remote, including a full mini-keyboard for web browsing. As well as predictable applications like YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, the service will also launch with some Irish-centric apps such as The Irish Times. Many apps will be accessible while watching TV.
The new service will cost €50 a month, increasing to €73 after six months, and does away with the need for a separate Internet router. It will come with 100 MBPS fibre broadband as standard. Equipped with Wi-Fi, users will be able to link it up with their laptops and smartphones, which can be used to control the box.
You can read more about the box on UPC's website.
