Manchester United have become the first sports team in the world to surpass a $3 billion valuation. Forbes has reported that a recent surge in the price of United shares has accelerated the Old Trafford club past the valuation landmark and it is now worth approximately $3.3 billion.

Manchester United is now the most valuable sports club by some distance, worth over 150% of the second most valuable- the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL, who are worth approximately $2.1 billion.

United have recently announced a spate of new sponsorship deals with companies such as Turkish Airlines and various companies in Asia, leading to increased revenue streams and pushing the share price up.
