European football's governing body UEFA is considering boycotting today's start of the FIFA Congress in Zurich - believing it could turn into a "farce".

Seven FIFA officials were arrested in Switzerland yesterday as part of a US-led corruption inquiry.

UEFA want tomorrow's presidential election to be postponed - when Sepp Blatter will be going for a fifth term.

Meanwhile, major sponsors have expressed serious concern following the arrest of the officials.

FIFA sponsor Coca-Cola Co. said the charges had "tarnished the mission and ideals of the FIFA World Cup and we have repeatedly expressed our concerns about these serious allegations".

German sportswear company Adidas, long associated with FIFA, said the soccer body should do more to establish transparent compliance standards.

A statement from Nike said: "Like fans everywhere we care passionately about the game and are concerned by the very serious allegations.

"Nike believes in ethical and fair play in both business and sport and strongly opposes any form of manipulation or bribery."

Anheuser-Busch InBev, whose Budweiser brand is a sponsor of the 2018 World Cup, said it was closely monitoring developments at FIFA.

Speaking before the Congress today, the President of FIFA, Sepp Blatter, says any corrupt officials in the organisation will be booted "out of the game".
