The legendary rugby player was reportedly in financial difficulty when he passed away in November, and a trust fund has been set up in order to help his family. 

Lomu is survived by his wife Nadene and two young boys, Dhyreille (6) and Brayley (5). The trust fund has been set up in order to assist them after his unexpected death at the age of 40. 

The New Zealand Players’ Association set up the independent fund, called the Jonah Lomu Legacy Trust, and speaking at the launch, CEO of the association Rob Nichol said that "It appears that because of Jonah’s well-known generosity, he had taken on obligations, financial and otherwise, to support others at the expense of himself, Nadene and the children". 

Nichol further added that as a result of the kidney disease that ended his career, and repeated dialysis sessions, Lomu was not earning as much as many would have thought, saying that "he was a humble and private person who chose not to seek help or be a burden on others in sharing his immediate challenges".

While there is still some work to be done to see the full extent of the finances that Lomu left behind him, Nichol said it's clear that "there's certainly nothing that's going to sustain any ongoing financial benefit for the family".
