Former Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni says FIFA President Sepp Blatter offered to meet with him to "find a way to forget" what had happened in the wake of the Henry handball in 2009.

In an interview with La Stampa, the Italian offered his side of the FAI-FIFA payment scandal which emanated from the Ireland v France World Cup playoff when Trap was in charge of the team.

He said: "Blatter said 'meet me, we can find together a way out, a way to forget'. I do not know what he wanted. I just know that when he gave me his hand, I did not give mine because I do not have two faces."

On top of the €5M payment to the FAI, Trapattoni says FIFA also organised a friendly on Ireland's behalf - the March 2011 defeat to Brazil at the Emirates.

Last night on Off The Ball, ex-Ireland midfielder Keith Andrews, who played on that infamous night, described the €5M loan from FIFA to the FAI after the Henry handball as "hush money".
