The president of French rugby union club Toulon has written to the English Premiership asking about the possibility of playing in the competition.

Mourad Boudjellal doesn't have the best relationship with organisers of the Top 14 in France, mainly because of rules on pay.

He told French newspaper L'Equipe that the three-time reigning European champions playing in the Premiership would offer "a huge added value" to the league.

"The economic future of rugby is in England rather than France, given the way the two leagues are run. The English take the right decisions," he said.

"If this is not possible the next season, maybe the one after that."

The Premiership have confirmed receipt of a letter.
