Mauricio Pochettino has made his first signing for next season after landing Austrian international, Kevin Wimmer.

Wimmer joins Spurs from Cologne on a four-year deal after transferring for a fee believed to be in the region of £4 million.

Reports suggested that the North London club would try to sign the 22-year-old in January, but an inability to move unused defenders Vlad Chirices and Younes Kaboul halted the deal.

The central defender has made 32 Bundesliga appearances this season and helped steer newcomers Cologne to a 12th-place finish following the club's promotion as champions of the German second tier last year.

Wimmer told German newspaper, Bild, that he would join Spurs to further his career and insisted that playing in the Europa League was not a hindrance.

"I go to Tottenham to go to the next level of my career. I don't mind if they play next season in the Europa League," he told Bild.
