Former world number one Tiger Woods has pulled out of his next two scheduled tournaments and is receiving treatment on his back.

The American had three surgeries on his back over the last 15 months and had hoped to be ready to compete at this year's Masters at Augusta.

The 14 time major winner returned to competitive action last month but pulled out of the Dubai Desert Classic after one round - complaining of back problems.

In a statement released today he said: "My doctors have advised me not to play the next two weeks, to continue my treatment and to let my back calm down.

"This is not what I was hoping for or expecting. I am extremely disappointed to miss the Genesis Open, a tournament that benefits my foundation, and The Honda Classic, my hometown event.

"I would like to thank Genesis for their support, and I know we will have an outstanding week," he added.

Woods will now be treated for the spasms he has been suffering recently and will still attend the Genesis Open in a non-playing capacity.
