We know sport can be cruel and there's no doubt that England's women's soccer team know all about.

Drawing 1-1 with reigning world champions Japan in last night's Women's World Cup semi-final, an injury time own goal knocked them out of the tournament in the most unfortunate of circumstances.

BBC World Service's Sarah Mulkerrins joined us on Off The Ball tonight from Canada to tell us about the heartbroken reaction post-game from an English team perspective as well as some of the controversial moments from the match.

Mulkerrins also talked about the finalists Japan, who are grinding out results on the way to trying to defend their title, while USA will hope to get the better of them on North American soil.

"You have to say USA will go in as favourites. But they haven't won a World Cup since 1999 which is astonishing, considering their dominance and their success," said Mulkerrins.
