Ireland manager Martin O'Neill says that he is still hopeful that Shane Long can be fit for Friday's Euro 2016 play-off against Bosnia.

The Southampton striker has not played since suffering an ankle injury during Ireland's qualifier defeat to Poland last month and has been given a painkilling injection by a specialist.

"He hasn’t ruled himself out at this moment. Naturally he hasn’t done that much work since he came off against Poland. That, again, might be one where the next couple of days will tell us just about everything. It would be great if he felt after the injection that his foot was fine and raring to go," said Ireland's manager.

O'Neill has also admitted that he is facing tough selection decisions surrounding the fitness of veteran defender John O'Shea and goalkeeper Rob Elliot.

Both players are struggling with injuries and their club managers have already said that they don't expect either player to play this week.
