Position: Winger

Who is he?

Born in Heidelberg, the 21-year-old started his career at Bundesliga upstarts TSG Hoffenheim, coming through the youth ranks.

He made his debut for TSG Hoffenheim II - the reserve team - towards the end of the 2010/11 season.

However, he never played for the club's senior team as he signed for Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2011.

Starting off in the club's reserve team where he scored 15 goals in 70 games , he did not make his senior debut until December 2012, ironically against Hoffenheim.

He went on to make two more appearances that season for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Achievements

This season, Hofmann has been promoted to the first team. Thus far the winger has been used as an impact sub in 10 Bundesliga games, four Champions League games and two Cup matches.

He scored his first Bundesliga goal in a 2 - 1 win over Eintracht Braunschweig in August, setting up the other goal by winning a penalty and picking up two more assists this season.

Hofmann has also been called-up to the Germany U21s this year, including a 45-minute cameo against Ireland in a September qualifier.

Attributes

Hofmann is primarily a winger who is capable of playing on the right or left.  The lightest and second shortest player at Dortmund, the 21-year-old is pacey but also has technical qualities.

This season, he has the club's joint highest pass completion - granted he has less time on the field to give the ball away - and is also able to play in the hole behind the striker.

Potential

Entrusted with the No 7 shirt at Dortmund, it would appear he has a long-term future at the club and will not be loaned out like fellow youngster Moritz Leitner.

He has certainly benefited from Mario Gotze's departure from the club and signed a new contract that runs until 2018.

But Klopp has chosen to be cautious with the youngster, using him as an impact sub and backup to Jakub Blaszcykowski.
