Paul and Gary O'Donovan capped off a memorable 2016 by claiming the RTE Sport Team of the Year award on Saturday night.

Their historic win at the Olympics which brought them a silver medal - not to mention global coverage as a result of their interviews - saw them claim the award.

They faced stiff competition, including from a history-making Connacht side after they claimed the PRO 12 title, but the public vote went the way of the two brothers from Cork.

There was recognition on the night for other stars of Irish sport after a massive sporting year, including Annalise Muprhy, who was named the Irish Times/Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Year earlier this week

Friends and team-mates of the late Anthony Foley paid a touching tribute to the iconic figure, while some of the most impressive individuals from Brid Stack to Eoghan Clifford, were recognised at the ceremony.

Other winners on the night included Conor McGregor, who was named the RTÉ Sport Sportsperson of the Year after he became the first ever simultaneous two-division champion in UFC history.

Stephen Kenny was named the Manager of the Year, reflecting an amazing 2016 in which his Dundalk side qualified for the Europa League group stages, and won a third SSE Airtricity League Premier Division title in-a-row.
