Stipe Miocic defended his UFC Heavyweight Title with a first round knockout of Alistair Overeem at UFC 203.

The Ohio native was defending his title for the first time, after winning the belt against Fabricio Werdum in Brazil last May. Overeem is one of the most decorated MMA fighters of all time, but has yet to get his hands on the UFC title.

Overeem started the fight on top, knocking Miocic to the ground, but was unable to make the champion submit with a guillotine choke. Both men has chances in the opening round and hurt each other on numerous occasions, before Miocic won by knockout with over 30 second left in the round.

A rematch against Werdum know looks likely to the 34-year-old. The Brazilian defeated Travis Browne by unanimous decision. Both Miocic and Werdum both seemed open to the possibility of a rematch, with the champion even saying he would travel once more to Brazil for a rematch.
