Corofin manager Stephen Rochford looks set to become the new Mayo football manager.

The Crossmolina native was seen as the favourite to replace Noel Connelly and Pat Holmes in the job. A statement released last night from the Mayo County Board confirmed that he was the only nominee for the position.

"The deadline for receipt of nominations for the position of Mayo Senior Football Team Manager has now passed. At this stage there is just the nomination of one candidate for the position. Both the Crossmolina Deel Rovers and Ballinrobe G.A.A. Clubs have submitted a nomination, along with a letter indicating acceptance of nomination, for Stephen Rochford to the role. The nominated candidate will meet with board officials over the coming weeks where formal discussions will take place and also confirmation of backroom team members."

Rochford led Corofin to an All Ireland Club title last March, and the club won their third Galway title in a row last month. They face Sligo champions St. Mary's next weekend in the Connacht semi final.

Should Corofin advance to the Connacht final, it has not yet been confirmed that Rochford will stay in charge until their Championship run ends.
