Arsenal might not have had enough to overturn a first leg deficit against Bayern Munich last night but they did have one of the game's standout performers in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Starting centrally in a role that he has been tipped for in the future, the Arsenal midfielder impressed against Europe's strongest opposition as these Squawka statistics from the game reveal...

The Ox was a driving force in the middle, and as the graphic above shows, every single one of his 10 dribbles was successful. And in actual fact his 10 dribbles were the most of any player on the field last night. Bayern winger Arjen Robben was second in that regard with just half the number of successful dribbles.

His pass success rate of 74 per cent was not great but given that Arsenal's average completion rate was about 75 per cent against a Bayern team which bossed possession, it is not a major issue.

The England international was also adept at winning fouls due to his pace and power and also showed his box-to-box credentials.

Oxlade-Chamberlain spent one third of the match in the zone between the halfway line and his team's box but also spent over 20 per cent of the game in the central attacking midfield zone, although he managed just one shot during the 90 minutes.

The 20-year-old has impressed in a similar role in the Champions League before, most notably against AC Milan at the same  stage two years ago when the Gunners came close to overturning a 4 - 0 first leg defeat.
