Whether Liverpool get what they paid for from all their summer signings, one thing they have been smart about so far has been to move quickly for their intended targets - and with talk of Christian Benteke more could be on the way.

Today's capture of Nathaniel Clyne from Southampton can be seen as a coup based on his impressive form last season which saw his elevation to the England squad. Although, he did not make the official PFA team of the season after being beaten to the right-back slot by Branislav Ivanovic, we did feel compelled to include him in our alternative team of the season.

It also strengthens the right full-back area which was not a strength last season with Glen Johnson and Javi Manquillo the main options and the likes of Raheem Sterling filling the breach at times.

So statistically what can Liverpool expect from Clyne next season?

Defensively

His diligence at the back was one of the main talking points among pundits in the last campaign, and in terms of errors, he only made one across the entire campaign in a relatively miserly defence.

That is far better than most of Liverpool's defenders who made a huge number of individual errors.

In terms of interceptions per match, he averages over 1.5 per game, which puts him on the cusp of the Top 10 among full-backs last season.

Attacking

Going forward it is interesting to note that he did not provide a single assist for Southampton in 2014/15 and created fewer than one chance per game, with a total of 22 across his 35 games.

That places him 15th among Premier League full-backs in that category.

However, he did contribute two goals from the right side in games against Liverpool and Aston Villa.
