There has been a lot of speculation over the last few weeks about who will take over the reins for the new Star Trek film and now we finally have the definitive answer.

Justin Lin will take over directorial duties for Star Trek 3, Paramount have confirmed. He replaces Roberto Orci, who remains attached as a producer

There were rumours that Edgar Wright was one of the directors who were in the mix but according to Deadline, Justin Lin was the only person offered the job.

Lin is currently directing episodes of True Detective Season 2 but has also worked extensively on the Fast and the Furious films.

The film is set for release in 2016 and will film next year. Chris Pine has signed on for the next film as Captain Kirk.
