James McCarthy has a host of clubs intent on securing his signature over the summer, with Spurs leading the chase for the Ireland international. Wigan’s valuation of £20m could still prove a stumbling block to any move, however.
Everton, Fulham, Newcastle, Arsenal, Southampton and Fulham are also known to be interested, according to The Sunday Times. Wigan’s new boss Owen Coyle is also believed to be keen to convince the 22 year old to stay at the DW Stadium. Fulham have had an £8m bid rejected.
Spurs are thought to be the most likely to land the midfielder’s signature, with £15m a more likely fee than the higher price demanded currently by Wigan.
McCarthy has gained a host of admirers in recent seasons, and some excellent performances for both club and country in the past 12 months have seen his stock rise to the point where he is now one of the most coveted young players in the Premier League.
Despite playing in a relegated side McCarthy finished in the top 10 Premier League players last season in terms of passes completed, while also creating 36 goal scoring chances for teammates.
