The Slovakia FA have asked UEFA to postpone this month's Euro 2020 playoff with the Republic of Ireland in Bratislava.

The game was due to be played behind closed doors anyway, but the Slovak government as shut down their airports and schools.

Five of Slovakia's players are also caught up in the lockdown in Italy and would all miss the game if scheduled as they play their club football in Serie A.

“We’ll take orders, whether Uefa come up with something different at that time or indeed our own government might be wary of us travelling," the FAI's interim deputy CEO Niall Quinn said of the situation on Virgin Media Sport last night.

“It’s a very difficult time and one we’re putting contingency plans in place for and hopefully we will be ready and have some form of defence.

“What we can say is that practically this looks very difficult at this time but we must plough ahead now and Mick must have his mindset that his team are travelling.

“It could change, I wouldn’t like to bet one way or the other but this problem seems to be escalating and we have to do the right thing and be ready if we have to alter things significantly.”

UEFA is to hold a video conference on Tuesday to discuss its response to the COVID-19 outbreak and how it relates to their competitions - the Europa League, Champions League and this summer's Euro 2020.
