Sizing Europe was a hugely popular winner of today's feature race at the Punchestown Festival.

The 12-year-old rolled back the years to score a superb victory in the Boylesports.com Champion Chase to earn the 21st victory of his incredible career.

With regular jockey Andrew Lynch on board, Henry de Bromhead's stable star stormed clear in the final furlong to beat Ballynagour by 5 and a half lengths.

After the race, owner Alan Potts confirmed that his veteran star would now be retired from the track.

Earlier, the Herald Champion Novice Hurdle was won by the odds-on favourite Faugheen for trainer Willie Mullins and jockey Ruby Walsh.

The bragbet.com Handicap Hurdle was won by the Nicky Henderson runner Cool Macavity at odds of 9/1.

The opening race of the afternoon was the Fr Sean Breen Memorial Chase, which went to the Enda Bolger-trained Be Positive.
