Earlier today, it was confirmed that one of the best exponents of facial hair in the GAA would be departing the scene as Seamus 'Cheddar' Plunkett stepped down as Laois hurling manager is pretty controversial circumstances.

To shed more light on his departure, Jack Nolan of Midlands Radio 3 spoke to Off The Ball: "On Tuesday evening, the U21 team met in a local hotel. Cheddar gave the team speech for the following night and then went on to senior training and after training it came to his attention that two players for the one club had been in a practice match the previous evening and I think he was shocked - and that's not a strong enough word for it. Some people said he was distraught but his reaction was to say 'this is it, I'm finished.'"

Nolan highlighted some of the frustrations which contributed to Plunkett's decision to leave.
