Henry Shefflin says he'll wait until the end of the year before deciding whether or not he will retire from inters county hurling.

The 9 time All Ireland winner has told the Irish Independent that he feels fit but will reflect at the end of the year and see where he stands.

The Ballyhale Shamrocks player says he doesn't know what kind of form he's in as he hasn't had a run of matches.

Injuries restricted Shefflins participation this season while his inter county year ended with a sending off against Cork in the All Ireland quarter final.

Previous to that the complications following a broken bone in his foot along with a dose of pneumonia delayed his return, Shefflin admits he probably wasn’t fit enough upon his return although the days running up to the Cork game was doing reasonable well in training matches.

The 11 time All star has welcomed Brian Cody's agreement to stay on as manager.

Kilkennys favourite son admits he was surprised by the speed of the game between Cork and Clare but regarding coming back in to the high pace world of top class hurling Shefflin says " I've been looking in injured before and had that same feeling. It always looks faster from the outside in. But It's just when you're at the bottom and I'm sure all the lads will be the same, thinking can you get back to that level ? I suppose that's the challenge. But I need to be sure that I myself an okay to do it. That's what I'll see come the end of the year."

Even though if you're from a county that isn't Kilkenny Shefflin has probably caused you some heartbreak I'm sure your inner hurling fan over rules your county bias and wants Shefflin back.
