Team Ireland's Shane Ryan has missed out on a place in the 100 metre backstroke final.
The swimmer, who set an Irish record in the preliminary heat to advance to the last-16, set a time of 54.4 in the semi-final.
He made a fast start to the semi but finished eighth and last in his heat.

The second semi-final followed shortly after and the times set in that heat meant Ryan was 16th of 16 among the semi-finalists for this Olympics' 100 metre backstroke.
